What this site is
greeklish2greek.gr converts Greeklish into proper Greek (and back), free and privately. What sets it apart is that it tells you where it isn't sure: it underlines uncertain words and offers alternatives you can pick with one click.
Who we are
greeklish2greek.gr is a project by Abax — an independent, non-commercial maker of free, private, genuinely useful tools.
Methodology — how it works
- Transliteration rules for phonetic (thelo) and visual (8elw) Greeklish, handling diphthongs and ambiguous letters (b→μπ/β, h→η/χ, etc.).
- A ~120,000-word frequency dictionary for correct spelling and accents on common words.
- Uncertainty highlighting: words not in the dictionary, or with several valid spellings (e.g. stis → στις or στης), are underlined with clickable alternatives.
- URLs, emails, usernames and code are never converted.
Sources
- The frequency dictionary is based on open-licence data (FrequencyWords, hermitdave — MIT), normalised and filtered for this purpose.
